Inspiration for

Valentine's in Paradise

by Artistic Director

Deborah Berioli

I know many people who refer to Venice (Florida) as “paradise”.  They have it as their email addresses, outgoing messages on answering machines – even on license plates.  With Valentine’s Day being the ultimate romantic holiday, and about 98% of music being about love (in some form or other) Valentine’s in Paradise seems a befitting title for one of our most popular concerts.  Love – paradise – romance: all the ingredients for an impassioned evening of great music making!

Stephen Mumbert, Baritone

Stephen Mumbert is quickly gaining attention on the concert and opera stage throughout the United States and England. Stephen was recently praised for being “vocally, the most promising singer” and for “possessing an assured and stylish technique” for his interpretation of the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Aldeburgh Festival in England. Mr. Mumbert’s most recent concert engagements have  included Dvorak’s Requiem (Space Coast Symphony and Oratorio Society), Holiday Pops concert series (Orlando Philharmonic), Bach’s Mass in B Minor and St. Matthew Passion (both with the Aldeburgh Festival), Donizetti’s Requiem (Fine Arts Chorale and Orchestra), and Haydn’s Creation (Brevard Chorale and Community Orchestra). Stephen is a graduate of Stetson University where he holds a B.M. in voice performance and he also holds an M.M. in opera from The Boston Conservatory.  He has participated in the young-artist programs of Bay View Music Festival (Marcello/La Boheme), Seagle Music Colony (Aaron Greenspan/Morning Star), Britten-Pears (Don Giovanni/Don Giovanni, Junius/The Rape of Lucretia), and Fort Worth Opera (Slim/Of Mice and Men, King Melchior/Amahl and the Night Visitors). Most recently Stephen was seen with Opera Naples performing the role of Professor Bhaer in Mark Adamo’s Little Women and will be returning there to reprise the role of King Melchior and to perform the role of Morales in Bizet’s Carmen. Stephen currently studies voice with Mollie Rich.
